Please do it again, man

We can safely assume now that Mrs. Creepy has had a baby and yet she still looks positively geriatric in the August Metro poster. I find it interesting that they have used this young afro'd Japanese guy as the beacon of courtesy this month. I am a bit of a fan of Japanese men in their native footwear in the summer, but doesn't the rest of his look seem a little dated? I think a yanki guy would be a more accurate portrayal, as I can only assume that this guy with his Hawaiian shirt is supposed to represent the "type" of people in Japanese commuter society who are not courteous. And if that is indeed their intention, then a regular old fucker of a salaryman would be spot on, no?

You'll have to excuse my tone, but I have just gotten back from a mini tour of the big summer festivals up in the Tohoku region and it was a harsh fall back into reality to be confronted with all the jerks in their suits, the subway and yes, the Kaisha. I've been totally immersed in festival fever for the past three days, in and out of three different cities, and the drum and flute melodies that were floating around in my head immediately fled like startled children upon my return to the corporate world. If there was a sound effect, it would be that of a record player that's been bumped, sending a nice scraa-atch sound out of the speakers. I don't think I would do very well in the countryside - I thrive on concrete and the smell of new clothes in boutiques - but the last week has made me want to run away and join the matsuri circus. Did I mention that my chaperones on said tour were the beau's parents? I went up there by myself like a big girl, minus the beau, and was accordingly treated like a young lady in Jane Austen's time: on the road alone and susceptible to highway robbers and all other manner of bad characters. There are no real horror stories to tell on that front, but I think we ended up drinking at a snack in Aomori city despite the beau's dad telling us it was a regular watering hole. Pictures to follow.

my only time in Aomori-shi, spent almost an hour wandering around trying to find something that *wasn't* a snack, only to fail miserably.
ended up going to one that had a pretty decent nomihodai deal and had a good time tho^^

That's what Mr Creepy looks like though.

Maybe they could stick a goatee on him to convert him into an evil twin.

agree - regular old fucker of a salaryman less likely to help woman up the stairs than afro boy. I have had a couple of young lads help me and baby gear / pushchair up stairs but no suits. Hope she doesn't have any more kids - looks like won't be good for her health if she's looking like that after one.

I keep imagining that Ms. Creepy has murdered the Mr -- he's in the case, she's taking it to dump in a harbor somewhere. Doesn't she look furtive, as if she's fleeing town?

Oh wow Mrs Creepy looks like she's suffering some sort of post-natal stress, poor pet.
What's the bet Mr Creepy is at a nomikai pissed out of his head, I say she and afro boy should go to a love hotel and get it on, they'd make much prettier babies.

My money would be on Mr Creepy's body being in the case.

It's a Japfro guy because the men in suits are bound by commutin g rule #239: thou shall not crease thy suits by lugging a suitcase!

Hahaha, nice one Sarahf. That's probably why she looks so nervous.

I think I've seen that Afro-Japanese guy wearing geta in Koenji.

Mr. Afro Cool, like the retro yanki bad boy in the poster, as as rule as the most helpful.

Yakuza, yanki et al are the only Japanese who brave enough to offer a seat to a gaijin on crutches like me.

Conversely, while salarymen are the rudest in demeanor and weaselly appearance, it’s the schoolgirls sitting in the handicapped seats of the train who are the least thoughtful—which makes sense because salarymen and schoolgirls are the most brain-dead in Japan.

Ooh you went to a snack! no idea what goes on in those, awaiting your enlightenment.

sarita: Snacks are rampant up there, which I guess shouldn't be surprising given there isn't a whole lot to do other than pachinko. I wish they were easier to enter - I was interested in checking some out based on their names alone.

RMilner: That would be a funny twist to the series!

Gaijin Wife: I know, she looks far too haggard! Good on the younger guys helping you out. Hope they were cute :)

Elaine: I'm loving your interpretation and it seems quite plausible, given people's affinity for hacking up others and carrying them around here!

Corinne: Ooh, that could be an interesting storyline to spice things up. Fingers crossed these posters start to get more personal!

Sarahf: This seems to be a popular theme, let's see if he shows up in September...

mukuge: Most of the older salarymen aren't wearing suits not worth creasing in my humble opinion :)

ELSN: Koenji would be this guy's haven. Really need to get out there again one of these days...

Taro3Yen: Thanks for stopping by. Maybe salarymen and schoolgirls belong together after all...

Jen B: I'm still not entirely sure, but I think I like it!

Anon: Thanks! This post showed up in my reader but I overlooked it. Those posters are fucking amazing, not just visually but all the thought and references that go into them. I wonder where PT managed to find them?

Did you visit the Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori? From what I can see on Youtube, it's great. I also read they had to cover the paper floats because of the rain this year.

wakanai: I did and it was incredible (hoping to post on it by, um, December). We missed the rain so the floats were out in all their gloriousness!
